("CHASE WAKES" AGILITY DEMONSTRATION)

Miner's holiday in Chasetown

Steve Glazzard to A.Gility (28.07.2002)

On 17th. August 2002 we have an annual festival in our village, it is called "The Chase Wakes". It celebrates this mining area from the early 1900's. It was a coal miner's holiday, a fair, dressed up lorries etc, and a reason for a good beer drinking session.

Our local dog training club will give an agility display on that afternoon, I will give a commentary over the broadcast speakers. Our club are displaying the Russian Agility system. To me it seems a lot more thought-out and intensive. Can you, at this short notice give me reasons why the Russian system seems to provide more entertainment per jump/obsticle than the original British system of 1978 at Crufts ?

A.Gility to Steve Glazzard

That is a surprise!!! I have never before listen this term "Russian system" !!! Is it your personally term, or your club term, or you have find it in a papers?

Steve Glazzard to A.Gility

I had not heard of the "Russian System" for agility before. My understanding was that the Russian system used the required obstacles more than once during a circuit. I have now been given a circuit showing an obsticle being used 3 times, (a jump)...

A.Gility to Steve Glazzard

I think you are right - Russians like to use obstacles more than once a circuit. I suppose that the reason is that Russian agility clubs have not complete sets of the obstacles (it is almost impossible to buy it in Russia, one need to make it himself). So, this is the consequence of Russian national laziness.

The second character of Russian style is that a handlers like to work on a long distance from a dog. Russian handlers do not like to run, they prefer only to show to dog next obstacle or direction. I think that this love to remote control is the consequence of Russian national laziness too.

You can find some examples of real Russian courses. Feel free to use them as you want...

Steve Glazzard to A.Gility

Many thanks for the agility courses that you sent to me for our group. What can I say? I arrived at the above to give the commentary about the agility only to find that the lads had decided to use one of your examples.

By the way, I have placed a comment with a few photographs on your agility web site...

Agility is a disease!

According to the latest researches, Agility is a mental disorder that can be passed by air. It is interesting that pet dogs can have this disease as well. Moreover, they catch it as a result of communication with an infected owner. No cases of an owner being infected by a dog have been reported yet.

The most harmful symptom of Agility is anti-social behaviour of a sick person: he/she loses interest to his family, kids, work and villa and is painfully striving after communication with other people infected with Agility. In neglected cases, his/her arms and face may grow red, and the voice may become gruff.

The first cases of Agility were described in England at the end of the previous century. Very quickly, this disease spread all over Europe and a bit later - on the other continents as well. By now, there are practically no countries free from it. Unfortunately, Russia is not safe as well, although it is too early to speak about an epidemic. In our country, the number of infected people is not more than one case per 100 thousand, which is much less than in the USA, France, Germany or Latvia.

Unfortunately, the group of risk is rather vast - all dog owners, irrespectively of their sex, age and heredity. To prevent the disease, we can recommend you to minimise contacts with Agility people and avoid places where they gather. And of course you shouldn't try Agility with your dog - in this case, the chance to catch the disease is 100%!

The scientists haven't found a reliable treatment for Agility yet. Some of them, including Profesor Rudashevsky, say that it can't be cured completely. Several cases of recurrence after several months, or even years, of sham recovery have been reported. In any case, the sooner you consult a doctor the better.
Self-treatment is particularly dangerous.

Trying to take part in struggling with this "Plague of the 21st Century", we are publishing a test that will show you whether you are in danger. This test was worked out by a group of specialits from a social non-commercial anti-agility organisation Together and its reliability has been verified by scores of sick volunteers. Our advice is to check yourself immediately. You shouldn't be afraid, but you should know! >>> TEST >>>

Creepy Stories
(almost by Stephen King)

I heard this story from a well-known Agility handler and also a groomer.
I swear that it's all true, except the dog's name...

Chapa with her owner

Right before the New Year, one of the clients called crying:
- Angelina, I'd like to cancel the trimming appointment...
   Our Chapa has died...

On 10 April, the same client called again:
- Our Chapa came home a week ago...
- ?!
- She was very lucky: it's winter now, so we buried her not too deep.
So, she has come and now she has puppies. Could you come and
    trim her?

In the course of the conversation, the woman told that a vet confirmed the dog's death. And while Angelina was trimming the dog, she found out why it took Chapa so long to come back. She was buried in the country house, and came back to her owners' apartment in the city.

Post Novel

A.Gility to AGILEDOGS (22.04.2002, 23:52)

Some days ago I had ordered 20 clickers at Clean Run store.
Unfortunately 11 was stolen by Russian post service.
It is shame but it is a Russian reality...
So I informed Monica Persival about this occurrence
and underlined that I have no claim to Clean Run.
Soon I have got additional 11 clickers from Clean Run as a gift!
I think that people have to know that Clean Run store
is more than a very good service.
It is a real friendly service!!!

R.Ohrt to A.Gility (22.04.2002, 23:55)

Gee! Do you think they are clicker taining their postal workers???

A.Gility to AGILEDOGS (23.04.2002, 01:06)

I think postal workers use clickers as beer-bottle-opener (disposable)

Jennifer R. Madrid to A.Gility (23.04.2002, 01:09)

I just tested this theory. It works but slightly cracked the plastic.
It still clicks though.
Clickers are getting handier and handier all the time!!!

We open the "Tutti-Frutti" page with a small essay by Katya Olekhnovich. Warning: the illustrations are very complicated for an unprepared visitor, as they have been made in psychedelic colours. In connection with this, the administration doesn't recommend the visitors under 18 years old and those with an unbalanced mind to look at the screen.

The Sports Dog

The sports dog's life becomes unusual since the very childhood. It enters a special world called "Agility" being only three or four months old. After that, almost daily training starts. At first, the dog doesn't see any point in the things it is required to do. But very soon, excitement and willingness to work appear. Since that, it is not simply a pet, but a determined and keen sportsman. Speed becomes the point of its life.
